Important Notes for Sysops for 17.2A
<< New BAT files for converting ARC & PAK to zip. Uses much
less memory. See ZIP.DOC >>
<< 0320. Support restored for using command letter as macro name >>
If command letter would result in Unknown command, RBBS does a
macro check. Allows, for example, "N" to be macro command when
in main section when confining valid commands to a section (e.g.
N is netmail processing).
<< 0318. Important new config option 168 to allow msg file to grow >>
See 172-NEW.DOC for details (item 8 system support).
<< New Menu0. Makes clear that F2 is shell. ^END now terminates user >>
<< 0306 has a new assembler program BASNOV.OBJ >>
<< Library section and verbose list will not work equivalently >>
03-04. Unless you set ARC to be the default extension in config.
You may want to set ZIP to default extension. See ZIP.DOC.
<< Can convert an upload on fly from one format to another >>
See 172-new.doc. See bat files CPAKZIP.BAT and CARCZIP.BAT for
working examples. Uses utility 2ZIP12.ZIP.
02-20. Config controls max # of work variables you can use
in macros and questionnaires. Default is 13. If you want more
than 13 - which is what REGRBBS requires - you must set this
variable higher (config parm # 94).
<< Everyone will have security altered in conferences to match
mail security unless you change config parm 156 >>
01-21 changes how the auto-adjust security option works.
Before, specified whether you wanted security adjusted.
Now, specified minimum security to be exempt from upgrade.
NEVER ADJUSTING is equivalent to specifying sysop security
level as exempt level. ALWAYS ADJUSTING is equivalent to specifying
minimum logon security level to be security exempt from
change. The auto-adjust will never change a person who is at
security level or locked out. Difference is that now you can
exempt callers at or above a specific security level, i.e.
you can have it apply only to persons below a certain security
level. You will want to use this if you have a subboard sysop
security level below the sysop security level.
01-16 supports screening out lines from message display.
To enable, you must specify the string at the beginning
of the line to suppress using config parm 158. "SEEN-BY: "
will suppress NetMail lines.
01-15 restores the option to allow users in a conference to
have lower security than the minimum to get into the conference
and still get in. The only way a user can be locked out of
a conference is to have security lower than the minimum needed
to log onto the main board initially. E.g. new users on board
get 5, takes 8 for new user to get into the conference. A
user in the conference with a user record having security 5
still gets in. But, if minimum security to get on main board
is 5, a user with security 4 in a conference user file will not
be able to join the conference.
->> Your personal directories may not work <<-
(1) Your personal directory in config has no drive/path.
No longer the drive/path for personal files be
automatically appended. You can put the personal
directory anywhere but you must put in drive path.
You can do this by re-running new config or by
directly editing DEF files. Be sure to make this
change in all DEF files, including subboard DEF's.
->> Warning: People may unable to join conferences! <<-
(2) The problem is that there is a new configuration
parameter 156 which determines whether you want the
main user file security to override and update the
conference security. It should be set to NO if you
want all conferences to work exactly as before.
->> Users may be able to read/kill ALL messages <<-
(3) There is a new config parameter 157 - min security to
read & kill all messages. Formerly this was hard coded as
sysop ecurity level. Now can be anything. CHANGE IT TO
SYSOP SECURITY. Will be 0 which on most systems means
ANYBODY CAN READ AND KILL EVERYBODY'S MAIN!!!
